Sensibles à des notions de psychogéographie et de pratique spatiale, tout en problématisant le recours à la médiation technologique, les recherches de Jean-Maxime Dufresne (B. Arch. McGill /UniAndes Bogotá, M.A. Comm. UQÀM) s’intéressent aux mutations qui façonnent nos territoires urbains ainsi qu’à leurs réalités sociales. C’est au moyen d’actions ou de dispositifs adaptés à ces contextes qu’il reconsidère le processus architectural dans une production matérielle étroitement associée à un travail d’enquête et à la création d’expériences provisoires, mélangeant principalement installation, vidéo, son et manoeuvre urbaine. Nourri par une réflexion critique sur nos environnements habités et construits, son travail individuel, en collaboration avec l’artiste Virginie Laganière ou comme membre de l’atelier SYN- a été présenté au Canada (Skol, Vox, Action Art Actuel, Optica, Dare-Dare / Dis-location, CCA extra muros, AXENÉO7, Biennale de Montréal, Public Acts 1-29) et à l’étranger (Interstices urbains temporaires / RDS, ISCRA, atelier d’architecture autogérée, Paris ; MobLab / 1st International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam, Pays-Bas ; Interferencia / Espai Cultural Caja Madrid, Barcelone ; Videoformes, Clermont-Ferrand, France ; Actions : What You Can Do with the City, Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) / Graham Foundation for the Advancement in Visual Arts, Chicago, Illinois ; Adaptive Actions / Madrid Abierto, Madrid, Espagne ; Institut Africain de Gestion Urbaine (IAGU), Dakar, Senegal). Depuis 2007, il siège au conseil d’administration du centre Dare-Dare et oeuvre au sein de l’équipe des programmes éducatifs du Centre Canadien d’Architecture, tous deux situés à Montréal. Il a aussi été impliqué dans l’organisation des événements Périphériques, entre 2003 et 2006 (La Chambre Blanche, Mutek / Le Placard).

Jean-Maxime Dufresne is an artist with a training in architecture (McGill U. / UniAndes Bogotá) and communication studies (UQÀM, Montreal), whose investigations deal with urban and social territories, as well as the transformations that shape them. Delving loosely into notions of psychogeography, his work holds ties with the critical field of spatial practices and often problematizes the use of technological mediation. Architectural process is reconsidered both as a form of inquiry and as a material production permeated by temporary experiences that primarily mix installation, video, sound and urban intervention. His work has been presented individually, in collaboration with artist Virginie Laganière or as a member of SYN- in Canada (Skol, Optica, Vox, L’Oeil de Poisson, Dare-Dare / Dis-location, CCA extra muros, AXENÉO7, Biennale de Montréal, Public Acts 1-29) and abroad (Temporary Urban Interstices / RDS, ISCRA, aaa, Paris, France ; MobLab / 1st International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam, NL ; Interferencia / Espai Cultural Caja Madrid, Barcelona ; Actions : What You Can Do with the City, Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) / Graham Foundation for the Advancement in Visual Arts, Chicago, Illinois ; Adaptive Actions / Madrid Abierto, Madrid, Spain ; Institut Africain de Gestion Urbaine (IAGU), Dakar, Senegal). Since 2007, he has been involved on Dare-Dare’s board of directors – an artist-run center operating in the public realm – and has been part of the Educational Programs team at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, both located in Montreal. He was also involved in the organization of the Périphériques events between 2003 and 2006 (La Chambre Blanche, Mutek/Le Placard).

Jean-Maxime Dufresne (B. Arch. McGill / UniAndes Bogotá, MA Com. UQÀM) investiga sobre todo en las cuestiones relativas a territorios urbanos y sociales, así como las mutaciones que les dan forma. Nociones de psicogeografía y el uso de la mediación tecnológica siguen alimentando su trabajo, donde se reconsideren procesos arquitectónicos en la producción de experiencias temporales, mezclando principalmente instalación, video, sonido e intervención urbana.
